Herbal Remedies For Neuralgia

Neuralgia causes severe spasmodic pain result of a disorder of nerve or group of nerves. Several causes are responsible for this such as nerve damage or irritation because of inflammation, compression of a nerve, infection, or systemic disease. It is always very severe and piercing pain in the beginning but later becomes extremely painful which is difficult to tolerate.

It can affect mostly the women who are older than fifty years but it can occur after the injury to an area also. Some herbs can be used to get relief without any side effects.

St.John’s Wort: It is extremely useful to treat this problem effectively, it has Anti-inflammatory, Anti-spasmodic properties. Its oil  can be applied to affected areas to get relief. Two to four droppers of St. John’s wort can be taken daily several times. It may be used for a longer period of time to heal this disease gradually.

Wood Betony: It is really a nervine tonic and is used as a tea or tincture to treat this ailment. It should be used regularly and for longer period of time to get good results. Its tea may be used twice in a day to get relief.

Passion flower: It also has nervine properties to heal this ailment. It is usually available in tincture and ten to fifteen drops may be taken thrice in a day to heal this disease.

Apple Cider Vinegar: Make a solution of half cup of  apple cider vinegar with two cups of water and apply this solution with cotton balls to the affected area to get relief.

Jatamansi and Sarpagandha: Both of these herbs can be used in the form of capsules to reduce the sensitivity of the nerves. Both of these herbs may be used for longer period of time to get relief and effective results.

Kaishor-Guggulu: It is really very effective to take both of these herbs to treat this disease. High doses of these may be taken to cure this ailment without any side effects. Two capsules twice in a day can be taken.

German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita): It is very soothing herb and gives strength to nervous system. Its oil contains bisabols, flavonoids and azulenes that makes this herb anti inflammatory, antispasmodic and muscle relaxant.

Cayenne Pepper: It contains capsaicin which has pain relieving properties. It blocks functioning of chemical in nerve which transmits the signal of pain. It also has salicylates which acts like aspirin and gives pain relief.

Black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa): It has antispasmodic properties and is very effective to relax muscles and calm nerves. Generally muscle spasms are accompanied by neuralgia outbreaks. Black cohosh can relieve nerve due to its salicylic acid, a plant chemical similar to an ingredient in aspirin.
