Swelling can occur on feet and ankles because of a variety of reasons. It may occur because of medical reasons like increase in uric acid, high blood pressure, heart diseases, liver diseases, kidney diseases, renal problem, high cholesterol level, thyroid, certain allergies, pregnancy, low blood protein content and malnutrition. It is a very common problem and can occur at any stage in life.
It is not a serious problem as such but if you ignore it, it can cause heart, liver and kidney diseases. Swelling on feet and ankles is very much embarrassing also. Your feet look ugly and you are also unable to wear your favorite shoes. Socks too become tight and you look abnormal in your circle.
Many home remedies for swollen feet and ankles are also very effective. By eating healthy diet and by regular exercise you can cure swollen feet and ankles. Wash your feet with cozy water by adding salt and a few drops of oil in it. After dipping feet in water for 10-15 minutes, clean them properly with a towel and then apply aloe Vera gel on them. Do this process every night for one week for benefit. Before going to sleep keep a pillow of normal size under your feet for comfort. Always give support to your feet whenever you feel tiredness.
Parsley is a useful herb in this case. Boil two teaspoons of parsley leaves in two cups of water. Boil this water until it is reduced to half the volume and then drink it thrice a day for relief. Reduce intake of salt, pickles, ketchups and packed food items from your daily routine for better functioning of your body organs.
Dandelion (Taraxacum Officinale) herb is also very helpful in treating swollen feet and ankles. You can consume this herb as tea, capsule, powder and in tincture forms. It is also good for the health of liver and heart.
Ginkgo Biloba herb is very good natural cure for swollen feet as it improves the circulation of blood and helps in reducing fluid and water retention from ankles. It is also helpful in treating pain and inflammation in the swollen area.
Peppermint (Mentha Piperita) herb is also wonderful. It energies the body and improves circulation of blood. It refreshes mind and its very fragrance gives a cooling sensation to the affected area. For taking benefit of peppermint, dip it in water for 3-4 hours. Dip your feet in this water for 10-15 minutes for relief. It helps in reducing tiredness and relaxes body muscles. Hot and cold use of peppermint water is also very useful. For this dip your feet in hot water for 5-7 minutes then dip feet in chilly water for 10-20 seconds. After this, again dip feet in hot water. Repeat this process 8-10 times. One thing is very important, always end this process with cold water.
Massage with herbal oils is very effective in treating swelling. Massage will definitely improves blood circulation and relax muscles. Avoid wearing high heals and prefer to wear branded comfortable shoes with ultra soft soles.
