Natural Remedies For Burns

Minor burns are very common happenings in our day-to-day life particularly for women and for those who have to deal with fire. These burns are easily curable with some precautions and the use of herbs at home but serious burns need special care because they can cause a higher degree of danger of infections due to extensive skin barricade disruption. Many herbs like Aloe Vera, Calendula, Goldenseal, Tea Tree and Comfrey root are available for treating burns.

Aloe Vera is an amazing herb for treating patients of burns. It is very helpful in formulating new skin and in healing the old one. Due to its anti-septic, anti- inflammatory and anti-fungal properties, Aloe Vera also gives a cooling effect. It reduces burning and gives quick relief. Aloe Vera gel can be applied on affected area directly. To get quick relief apply Aloe Vera herb gel 4-5 times a day directly on the burn area.

Marigold, which is also known as Calendula, is also beneficial for treating burns. Due to its anti-bacterial, anti- inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-fungal properties, it protects our body from free radicals that can cause damage to our skin. It intensifies flow of blood towards burn area and helps in quick healing. The flavonoid content of calendula prevents damage of skin cells. You can apply its gel on the affected area. Its ointment is also available in market. Apply this ointment 3-4 times a day, particularly at daytime.

There are many natural remedies for burns are very effective. Herbs like Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and Tulsi (Ocimum Sanctum) are also useful in the healing process. Ashwagandha and tulsi strengthen immunity of the body and work as a shield against infections. They also lessen inflammation and are helpful in quick healing. You can make paste from these herbs for application on the burn area. For better results you can also add Aloe Vera, Chandan (santalum Album) and Triphala (three fruits) in this paste.

Comfrey root is very effective for regeneration of body cells.  Due to its Allantoin content, comfrey is capable of helping the formation of new cells. This herb gives cooling effect and is helpful in quick recovery. You can apply its paste on the affected area. To form this paste you need 1 tablespoon of comfrey root powder and 8 oz of water. Blend comfrey root in water and apply the paste.

Golden seal also contains anti-biotic and berberine content, which have sharp action against fungus and bacteria. This herb is very much popular in America in the field of skin health. It is very beneficial in healing wounds and other skin infections also. Golden seal gives cooling effect and heals the burn quickly. You can make its paste at home but it is convenient to buy its ointment from the market and apply it on the affected area many times in a day.  Pregnant women and patients of hyper-tension should not use this herb.

Tea tree oil is also a very useful herb for skin care. It is helpful in healing all types of skin infections, wounds and burns. Due to its anti-septic, anti- inflammatory and anti-fungal properties, it promotes healing of tissues and provides coolness.
